The Vineyard Row Console draws its character from the craftsman architecture and casual wine country spirit of California's Napa Valley, and Hooker has translated that sensibility into a piece that feels genuinely rooted in a place. Pecky Hickory veneers bring the natural irregularity of the wood to the surface — the pocking and grain variation that gives hickory its particular honesty — laid up in a high-low veneer planking pattern that reads like reclaimed barn siding refined into furniture. Rustic hammered metal bracket accents and metal stretchers carry the handworked quality through, giving the piece its structure and its personality in equal measure.
The Sonoma finish is light and warm, the color of pale wood in afternoon sun, evoking the crisp, mineral character of the white wines that made the region famous. Hooker builds this finish through a multi-step process of up to sixteen stages, including hand-rubbing and padding, so the surface has real depth and a smoothness that rewards a closer look.
At eighty inches wide with two full-length fixed shelves, the console is genuinely sized for a living room anchor. Each shelf opening runs the full interior width and is deep enough to house components, baskets, or books with room to breathe. Clever details make it more practical than it first appears: the piece is finished and detailed on both sides, so it can be positioned as a room divider or floated in a space without a wall behind it, and the top is rated to hold a flat-screen TV up to eighty inches. Levelers underneath handle floors that aren't quite level.
The distressing — rasping and sandblasting — is applied by hand, and the result is texture you can feel rather than a printed facsimile. This is the kind of piece that belongs in a relaxed, confident room, at home with natural linen, stone, and worn leather as easily as with cleaner contemporary surroundings.
